If a potential client evaluating how to set up their online store came to me for advice, I would recommend using a separate site (like Weebly) instead of setting up an online store that’s WordPress enabled (like WooCommerce).

For my reasoning, I am going to assume that the client does not have much experience setting up an e-commerce platform and I will use my Weebly Vs WooCommerce examples to compare for my reasoning.

I believe Weebly (a separate site) offers better simplicity and ease of setup for someone who is new to building an online store. It uses a drag-and-drop builder that allows beginners to quickly create everything from pages to products and manage orders without needing advanced technical knowledge. Because the platform handles maintenance and security automatically, the client can focus on running their store rather than managing the technology behind it.

While WooCommerce (WordPress enabled) offers far more customization and flexibility, it also requires a deeper level of technical knowledge and ongoing maintenance. For someone without prior experience, this could make the setup process more complicated and time-consuming.

Some of my reasons for recommending Weebly include the following:

Ease of Use – Weebly has a drag-and-drop builder that allows beginners to design their store without coding knowledge. It provides a similar ease of use to WordPress in that users do not need a large amount of technical experience to get started.

All-in-One Platform – Because Weebly includes hosting, security, and e-commerce tools within the same platform, users do not need to worry about setting up separate services. This also reduces the learning curve because everything is managed in one place rather than requiring additional software or integrations.

Faster Setup – Since most features are already built into the platform, an online store can be set up and launched quickly. With the WordPress and WooCommerce approach, users must install and configure multiple pieces before the store is ready.

Low Maintenance – Weebly manages software updates and security automatically. This allows business owners to focus on running their store instead of maintaining themes, plugins, security settings, and other technical pieces required with WordPress.

Cost Management – While WooCommerce can potentially be cheaper, it still requires web hosting and often additional paid plugins or services. With Weebly, everything is included within one platform and typically involves a single monthly payment rather than multiple costs from different providers.

What type of e-commerce store type to use?
